CSC certificate is not a formality, but a permit for the container to move
If the container is used for transport, it must be technically suitable.
This is confirmed by the CSC certificate , a document that allows the container to participate in international logistics.
Besides:
- The container may not be accepted on board
- can be stopped in the terminal
- Additional costs and delays may occur
👉 Usually, if there is no CSC, the container does not “leave”.
What is CSC certification?
CSC (Container Safety Convention) is an international standard that sets container safety requirements.
The certificate confirms that:
- The construction is safe
- The container is suitable for loading and transport
- It complies with international requirements
👉 This is not “paper for paper” – it is a real confirmation of security.
When is a CSC check needed?
CSC is relevant in all cases when the container is used:
- 🚢maritime transport
- 🚛 for multimodal transportation
- 📦 for export
- 🔄 SOC (Shipper Owned Container) for shipments
👉 If the container is only standing in the yard, CSC is not needed.
👉 If it moves in logistics, CSC is necessary.
How is the container inspection performed?
A technical inspection is not just “to see if the door closes”.
Evaluated:
- construction (frame, corners, floor)
- tightness
- door mechanisms
- damages, deformations
- overall operational safety
👉 Only after verification can the validity of the CSC be issued or renewed.
CSC validity and renewal
The CSC certificate has an expiration date.
- new containers usually have a valid CSC from the manufacturer
- used containers need to be upgraded to the CSC
- After expiration – the container is no longer suitable for transport
👉 A common mistake is to buy a container without checking the condition of the CSC.
When do problems arise?
In practice, the following are most common:
- CSC Expired
- The container has structural damage
- container “cargo worthy” but not suitable for CSC
- The line refuses to accept the container
👉 In such situations, the container becomes a problem rather than a solution.
How we work
UAB “Onze” organizes:
- technical inspection of containers
- Issuance or renewal of a CSC certificate
- consultation before buying a container
- solutions if the container does not meet the requirements
👉 Our goal is for the container to move, not to stand still because of the documents.
When is it worth checking in advance?
- before buying a used container
- before export
- before SOC shipment
- when there are doubts about the condition
👉 Checking before is always cheaper than problems after.
